Repartição, de Edu de Barros e Raoni Azevedo, chega a São Paulo em uma parceria entre a Sé e a Galeria Jaqueline Martins, que cede um de seus espaços para a exibição do projeto. A abertura acontece no sábado, 19 de agosto, das 12h às 17h. Visitação até 30 de setembro.

A exposição é a etapa mais recente da série "Afrescos em drywall", resultado da parceria entre Edu de Barros e Raoni Azevedo. Nos últimos anos, os artistas realizaram as instalações Altar (2021) e Capela (2022), respectivamente no pátio do Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro e na Casa Bicho, compostas por pinturas sobre estruturas arquitetônicas de drywall. Planejadas para esse fim, as instalações foram desmanteladas, transformando-se em uma série de obras autônomas que originaram Repartição, apresentada pela primeira vez na Galeria Refresco, no Rio de Janeiro, em 2022, com curadoria de Clarissa Diniz.

As obras de perfis metálicos e chapas de gesso acartonado, usados comumente na construção rápida de edifícios comerciais, mimetizam portais, arcos, quinas e nichos, saídos do interior de museus e catedrais. As superfícies são cobertas pela vigorosa imagética da pintura de Barros. O artista retrata cenas de um apocalipse mundano, onde elementos e personagens da vida cotidiana brasileira são vistos em ângulos e composições que dialogam com a tradição de mitologias e sacralidades narradas nas parede e tetos de templos. O título da exposição alude a um paradoxo técnico, um tensionamento entre os tempos dos afrescos antigos - trabalhosos, técnicos, milenares, únicos - e a contemporaneidade do drywall - rápido, modular, frágil, prático.

A curadora Clarissa Diniz comenta: "Realizados pela parceria de Raoni e Edu, as instalações surgiram a partir de convites e/ou oportunidades, se implicaram e responderam (do ponto de vista físico, histórico e simbólico) a espaços e institucionalidades específicas, assim como possuíram intenções e metas claras: criar, em lugares de culto da arte, fricções com o repertório artístico das religiosidades. Ao se despedaçarem, Capela e Altar também profanam a arte: afrontam sua intocável excepcionalidade com facas afiadas, serras, tesouras, martelos e pregos capazes de cortar e recombinar as instalativas pinturas."

Amigos de longa data, trabalharam juntos primeira individual de Barros na Sé, Cropped, em 2020, quando, em isolamento durante a pandemia, realizaram os primeiros afrescos nas superfícies da galeria. A criação do trabalho, que posteriormente também foi repartido e comercializado, foi transmitida em tempo real pela internet. Ambos são também integrantes de uma congregação de artistas e fiéis, A Noiva – Igreja do Reino da Arte, fundada inicialmente por eles e por Maxwell Alexandre, em 2017, no Rio de Janeiro. A Igreja atua promovendo cultos, rituais e entregas em nome da Altíssima Arte.

No mesmo dia, horário e local da abertura de Repartição, a Galeria Jaqueline Martins inaugura a individual de Daniel de Paula, infraestrutura, instituição, indivíduo,.

Repartição [Repartition], by Edu de Barros and Raoni Azevedo, arrives in São Paulo in a partnership between the Sé and Galeria Jaqueline Martins, which lends one of its spaces for the exhibition of the project. The opening takes place on Saturday, August 19, from 12pm to 5pm. Visitation until September 30.

The exhibition is the most recent stage of the series "Afrescos em drywall" [Frescoes in drywall], the result of the collaboration between Edu de Barros and Raoni Azevedo. In the last years, the artists created the installations Altar (2021) and Capela [Chapel] (2022), respectively in the courtyard of the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro and Casa Bicho, composed of paintings on architectural drywall structures. Planned for this purpose, the installations were dismantled, becoming a series of autonomous works that originated Repartição, presented for the first time at Galeria Refresco, in Rio de Janeiro, in 2022, curated by Clarissa Diniz.

The works of metal profiles and plasterboard sheets, commonly used in the quick construction of commercial buildings, mimic portals, arches, corners, and niches, straight out of the interior of museums and cathedrals. The surfaces are covered by the vigorous imagery of Barros' painting. The artist depicts scenes from a mundane apocalypse, where elements and characters of Brazilian daily life are seen in angles and compositions that dialogue with the tradition of mythologies and sacredness narrated on the walls and ceilings of temples. The title of the exhibition alludes to a technical paradox, a tension between the times of ancient frescoes - laborious, technical, ancient, unique - and the contemporary nature of drywall - fast, modular, fragile, and practical.

Curator Clarissa Dinzi comments: "Made by the partnership of Raoni and Edu, the installations emerged from invitations and/or opportunities, implied and responded (from the physical, historical, and symbolic point of view) to specific spaces and institutions, as well as they had clear intentions and goals: to create, in places of worship of art, friction with the artistic repertoire of religiosities. When falling apart, Capela and Altar also profane art: they confront its untouchable exceptionality with sharp knives, saws, scissors, hammers, and nails able to cut and recombine the installation paintings."

Longtime friends, they worked together on Barros' first solo show at Sé, Cropped, in 2020, when, in isolation during the pandemic, they made the first frescoes on the gallery's surfaces. The creation of the work, which was later also dismantled and commercialized, was transmitted in real time over the Internet. Both are also members of a congregation of artists and believers, A Noiva - Igreja do Reino da Arte, initially founded by them and Maxwell Alexandre, in 2017, in Rio de Janeiro. It works promoting services, rituals, and deliveries in the name of High Art.

On the same day, time, and place as the opening of Repartição, Galeria Jaqueline Martins opens Daniel de Paula's solo show, infraestrutura, instituição, indivíduo, [infrastructure, institution, individual].
